Council Workshop
What Is a Council Workshop?
A Council Workshop is the first meeting in a Council meeting cycle. During this meeting, City Council reviews all proposed documents and discusses each agenda item. If additional information or clarification is needed, Council may request that Staff provide it at the subsequent City Council meeting.
Council Workshops are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month. Council Members receive all relevant documents approximately five days prior to the meeting, and no later than 48 hours before the meeting, in accordance with MCA requirements. Following the Workshop, Council Members have the following week to review any clarifications provided by Staff before a vote is taken.
No decisions or votes are made at a Council Workshop.
The public may speak during the Public Comment portion at the beginning of the meeting. Each speaker is limited to three minutes.
What If I Am Unable to Attend a Meeting but Want to Comment?
Members of the public have several options for providing comment if they are unable to attend a meeting in person:
Contact your Ward representative and share your comments. The Council Member may then relay that input during the meeting.
Submit a written comment by sending a letter to the Mayor’s Office requesting that your statement be read into the record.
Please note that all public comments—both written and verbal—must include the commenter’s name and address. Many individuals choose to read a prepared statement aloud and then submit a copy to be included in the official record.
Public participation is a vital part of local government, and all residents are encouraged to engage in the process.
