Economic Development
The City of Laurel is committed to supporting economic development efforts throughout the city. City Staff work with local businesses, institutions, and non-profits to ensure that Laurel is a great place to live, work, and play.
The City is committed to creating a thriving downtown area that is a destination for Laurel residents. The City directly supports downtown rehabilitation efforts by providing grants to eligible businesses and property owners who conduct renovation and improvement efforts. The City is focused on enhancing downtown district character by removing blight, supporting development of underused parcels, and instituting placemaking projects such as lighting and landscaping improvements.
The City has focused on growth opportunities not only in its downtown core but on its periphery. City Staff are forefront in guiding the development of new subdivisions, commercial areas, and industrial sites. The Planning Department works closely with developers and business owners interested in annexing into the city to access local utilities and services.
The Planning Director regularly meets with members of regional economic development agencies such as Big Sky Economic Development and Beartooth Resource Conservation & Development to support local efforts, find grant opportunities, and connect Laurel with economic development activities in Yellowstone County and the surrounding area.
