Patrol Officer
The Laurel Police Department is a growing and dynamic department located in south central Montana. Laurel sits just an hour away from the Beartooth- Absaroka Mountain range and the world famous Beartooth Pass on its way to Yellowstone National Park. The historic Yellowstone River flows past Laurel’s Riverside Park which offers access for fishing, boating, seasonal camping, and a recently added walking trail. Neighboring Montana’s largest metropolitan City of Billings, Laurel offers a hometown feel while offering easy access to the amenities of a city.
The Laurel Police Department consists of 14 Sworn Officers, an active Reserve Officer program, animal control / code enforcement, and dispatch center that handles approximately 10,000 calls for service each year. In addition to the Patrol Division there are special duty assignments such as D.E.A. Drug Task Force Detective, General Detective, School Resource Officers, Reserve Officer Coordinator, Yellowstone County Tactical Response, and a K-9 unit. The command structure consists of the Chief of Police, Assistant Chief / Captain, and a Sergeant position.

12-month probationary wage is $27.83/Hr. with $1 /Hr. wage increase upon successful completion of probationary period. The City of Laurel also offers additional per hour increases for Montana Peace Officers POST Intermediate and Advanced certificates.
